Jos was born in the Netherlands where he completed his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. Jos was employed for 10 years by Royal Dutch Shell in their computer department. In 1982 he was sent to the United Kingdom to assist the IT-team at Teesport Refinery in Middlesborough, North Yorkshire.
It was Anke (a registered nurse), Jos’s spouse, who became a day volunteer at Camphill Botton Village. Over the span of two years the connection with Botton increased, and in March of 1984 they moved to Camphill Botton Village and Jos resigned from his job at Shell. They became the house leaders of Rowan house and Jos became head of the maintenance department with 20-plus employees. In 2001 they moved to Camphill Village Copake with their five children where they became the house leaders in Juniper house. Jos took on the responsibility for the maintenance department in Camphill Village, and was the owner’s representative on most of the construction and infrastructure projects, was the chair of the Master Plan Executive committee from 2010 to 2018 and was a member of the Focus group from 2012 to 2017. Jos has been a Camphill Ghent Board member since 2013. |
Jos and Anke moved to Balsam house in 2013 and Jos passed on responsibility for the maintenance department in 2018. Jos is currently the chair of the Village Residential Planning group and member of Building & Maintenance group, the Finance committee and Future Need group.
In his spare time Jos enjoys to spend time with his children and grandchildren, traveling with their RV, running and bicycling.
